This is so ironic! My birthday is July 15 and I will turn 24 in just a few hours in my time zone. Last year on my birthday I announced to my family that I was moving to New York and when they realized I was serious, they set a pretty impossible standard for me: have a job and a place to stay before you leave town and we'll support you. Naturally, I was flabbergasted because that required me having a plan and all I knew that I wanted to live there. I didn't have a plan!

Like you, I didn't want to look back on my life and my youth and wonder why I didn't do it. I don't like living with regrets. Also like you, I have always talked about living in NYC one day. A lot. I was praying outloud in my car today, thinking about where I was a year ago -- talking openly and brazenly to my family about this life-altering NYC move -- and did nothing but make excuses to God about why I shouldn't do it afterall (even though I can apply to transfer within my company to a NYC office and my Manhattan cousin has offered me his couch until I can find a suitable roommate; both ultimatums God solved!). My savings account isn't up to par, I said. I should bolster my resume some more. I'm going to be in over my head. My faith isn't strong enough. I'm perfectly safe and secure in Tennessee. Blah blah blah.

Then I stumbled across your blog, while looking for a different NYC blog. I gravitated to this post in the sidebar and wow. "Just Do It" is what I needed to read today. Thanks for writing this! I am crafting a plan, starting tomorrow. I hope by this time next year, I'm not living in Tennessee, but living in NYC and loving every moment of it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30534052.post-3771507985495584592008-09-26T21:45:00.000-04:002008-09-26T21:45:00.000-04:00we have two differences, katie....one, i believe y...we have two differences, katie....one, i believe you are or aren't a new yorker.. it doesn't matter how long you live there, or if you are born there...

it's either in you or it isn't, and if it is (as it was with me) you are a new yorker the minute you step on the sidewalk.

secondly, i was in my 40's when i decided to go.

best. decision. ever.

much luck on your continued love affair with the city.quin brownehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09804746948797234402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30534052.post-74936238882474666062008-07-20T23:07:00.000-04:002008-07-20T23:07:00.000-04:00I know this is a few years old and you are already...I know this is a few years old and you are already living in NYC, but I have decided to make my dream of living in NYC a reality.
